What does a planning and development graduate scheme offer?
The planning and development graduate scheme is diverse as it covers a wide range of specialisms, including highly strategic policy issues, alongside the more operational aspects of land & real estate use and development.
As a graduate planner, you’ll provide support to the wider P&D teams on planning applications and projects, whilst working towards achieving MRTPI qualification through the APC structured training scheme.
We invest in our graduates from day one of our P&D grad scheme, providing a structured training programme, an APC supervisor or counsellor, and regular assessments to ensure you achieve the full level of competency required for your APC.
What are the pathways into a planning and development graduate scheme?
The most common route into our graduate planner or graduate development surveyor property graduate scheme is to have studied a RICS (Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors) or RTPI (Royal Town Planning institute) accredited degree such as Real Estate, Spatial Planning or Urban Planning.
We also offer a non-cognate route to the RICS or RTPI graduate scheme for those who are willing to study towards a master’s in order to join the property grad scheme - please see our apprenticeship page for further information. Please note, you can still apply for this opportunity through our graduate recruitment application process.
The RICS and RTPI competency framework ensures those applying for the qualification are competent to practise and meet the highest standards of professionalism required.
Why choose a career in planning and development?
A career in P&D would be perfect for those interested in people, places and sustainability. It is a fundamental part of our society, and 'planning' itself has been around since the first settlements were built thousands of years ago, when the need to be located by rivers, shelter and food meant the difference between prospering and failing.
Today, town planning balances the social, economic and environmental needs of urban and rural areas, and remains an incredibly important part of whether a community thrives or not.
Becoming a chartered member of the RTPI means you’re fully qualified, and can officially call yourself a ‘Chartered Town Planner’, with the professional letters 'MRTPI' after your name.
