Patrick Brady, an associate in the Carter Jonas residential sales team in Bath, has completed a 240-miles charity cycle ride from St Austell in Cornwall, across Bodmin Moor and Exmoor, and all the way to Bristol, to raise much needed funds for a children’s hospice.

Thirty-year-old dad Patrick, who only joined Carter Jonas in May, battled against high winds and driving rain across some of the most desolate terrains in the country, to raise more than £1,200 in sponsorship for the Children’s Hospital South West, which is building a new facility on the outskirts of Bristol.

Patrick was one of 97 cyclists, including his brother Luke, who set themselves a target of raising £100,000 for the worthy cause. And they seem to be well on the way, having raised more than £70,000 at the last count, with more promised money still coming in.

Patrick thanked all his friends and work colleagues, both past and present, for their generous support, and particularly Carter Jonas who contributed the lion’s share of his sponsorship.

A former rugby player who took up cycling only last year to continue keeping fit, Patrick said despite the atrocious weather, the long-distance ride was well worth the effort and he would definitely do it again next year should the opportunity arise.

Patrick cycles about 20 or 30 miles a day three or four days a week but said the 240 miles in three days took a lot of extra effort. He occasionally cycles to work in Bath from his home on the Dorset, Somerset, Wiltshire border but chooses the days carefully, depending on the weather!
