Carter Jonas is sponsoring the Regent’s Park Wooden Spoon Community Rugby Project, which organises weekly rugby playing events for underprivileged children on the Camden Park Estate in London.
Wooden Spoon is a children’s charity dedicated to helping underprivileged children across the UK lead happier, richer lives. The charity’s initiative in Regents Park is supported by international rugby player Jason Leonard OBE, who credits his involvement with rugby from a young age as changing his life for the better.
The project is also supported by The Crown Estate, the Metropolitan Police and The West Euston Partnership and aims to reduce anti-social and threatening behaviour by young people on housing estates in West Euston by providing a positive replacement activity: playing and experiencing rugby.
The aim is to eventually establish a new permanent junior rugby club located in Regents Park that is self financing and has strong parent volunteer involvement, extending the benefits of the project into the future and to more young people.
John Henniker-Major, Chairman of Carter Jonas commented: “This is great example of a project which both helps disadvantaged children and has the potential to bring the local community together. I am very pleased that Carter Jonas was able to offer its support to such a worthwhile venture.”
As part of Carter Jonas’ support, the firm also donates office space to the Wooden Spoon’s London-based team at its Beauchamp Place office in Knightsbridge.
